We did a press release announcing the availability of Alphabet Morpher v1.0. Here's the content:

Our press release covering Alphabet Morpher went live this morning. Since I’m a big believer in recycling content, it makes liberal use of the original blog post. Anyway, here’s the text:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alphabet Morpher, a new Education / Entertainment App from BluMtnWerx, Now Available on Apple’s App Store

Alphabet Morpher, an innovative tool for teaching the alphabet to preschoolers, is available for immediate download on Apple’s App Store.

Los Altos, CA — July 24, 2010 — BluMtnWerx, a developer of leading edge applications for mobile devices is pleased to announce that Alphabet Morpher, its first education/entertainment app, is now available for download from the App Store.

Alphabet Morpher is an innovative and extremely engaging iPhone™ / iPod touch™ app that teaches the alphabet while entertaining the preschool set. Each colorful upper case alphabet letter from “A” to “Z” smoothly morphs into its lowercase counterpart, creating a strong visual association for a child learning the alphabet. Familiarity with the letters is reinforced by an accompanying song and memorable image for each character.

“While we’d never want one of our apps to be characterized as ‘cute,’ Alphabet Morpher comes pretty close,” says Dean Stevens, founder of BluMtnWerx. Mr. Stevens continues, “Autoplay mode allows you to entertain little learners for hours with minimal interaction, while the interactive mode really helps develop letter recognition and familiarity. This is a powerful teaching tool targeted directly at those impressionable young minds. It’s fun, it’s engaging, and it might even be (at least a tiny bit) good for the little folks.”

Alphabet Morpher is available on Apple’s iTunes App Store at:

At long last, the iPhone is officially available in China on China Unicom. The key question is, "Will this boost app sales?"

After years of stealth forays across the border, the iPhone has made it’s full frontal assault on China. It seems like this has been in the works forever, but the iPhone is finally officially available on China Unicom. I did a post on the subject over on my “Go East” blog, but the primary issue of interest, here, is whether full support for non-jailbroken iPhones in China will give us any sort of a boost in app sales.

I didn’t see any activity from China when I checked yesterday’s daily sales reports on iTunes Connect. If I assume that the reports use GMT-7 (PDT) for the cutoff, we might have had a few hours of selling in China between the launch and the time the reports were generated. I guess that today’s report will really give the first indication. Is anybody seeing an increase in app sales coincident with the launch in China?

Image Credit: Geek.com: iPhone Deal with China Unicom

Since we made iPuck play in the time dimension, it seemed only fair to do the same for iPuckLite. We also added full Scoreloop integration to iPuckLite — the app now has its own leaderboard. Further, we report your absolute score to Scoreloop (assuming that you win). The “net” score is a thing of the past. The game is still twitchy, simple and engaging. You’re up against a tight clock, a very smart defender, and some real competitors on the Scoreloop network.

With v1.1, iPuckLite fully supports the Scoreloop game network. This means that you can play as part of a global community! You can compare your scores with other gamers worldwide and even challenge them directly. You can challenge just about anyone, including your contacts and buddies on Facebook. Tapping on a name in the high score list initiates a challenge against an existing player. You can also create and accept anonymous challenges. Scoreloop will ensure that you play against opponents with reasonably equivalent skill levels.

Scoreloop brings intense competition and a sense of community to iPuckLite. Being able to compare scores, challenge other players and participate in the Scoreloop community make the game even more compelling. See if you don’t get a little sweaty when you’re trying to smash a challenger, or finally work your way up to the top of the high scores list.

Apologies in advance to our more aesthetically sensitive users who were offended by the appearance of the BluMtnWerx logo in RingDance's main view. The free app sounds the same, and when your screen times out, it even looks the same.

With the approval of RingDanceLite v1.0, the “crass” logo is back in the app store. The good news, though, is that the app is free. The better news is that the app sounds just like the paid version of RingDance. You won’t be able to tell the difference, once your screen times out.

RingDanceLite provides a soothing audiovisual encounter with your iPhone™ or iPod touch™. The colored rings dance randomly about your screen. When they touch, they exchange colors and make a gentle sound. The calming melodies produced by the dancing rings create a relaxing environment that enables you to either focus your thoughts, or completely surrender to the otherworldly music.

The music produced by the dancing rings may be almost hypnotic, in spite of the distraction presented by the crass commercial imagery. We hope that the truly evolved will be able to look beyond the logo and use the app as a tool for meditation and concentration. Of course, we’d be just pleased as punch if these folks went ahead and bought the paid version of the app. That way, they could avoid all exposure to the logo. To be honest, though, I created the logo, and I’m not really sure why they’re so offended by it. I guess that therein lies the difference between the engineer and the artist…
